NEW LONDON, Conn. — The work of four photographers working within the long
tradition of the photographic book will be included in the exhibit “Photography
and the Page” at Connecticut College from Monday, Jan. 30 through Friday, March
3, in the Cummings Arts Center Gallery on campus. Gallery hours are Monday to
Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 1-4 p.m. The exhibit is free and
open to the public.
The exhibit illustrates each artist’s unique relationship with the printed page
and their interest in a variety of subject matter. Photographers include: Ted
Hendrickson, Connecticut College professor of art; Miles Ladin, New York
photographer and Connecticut College alumnus; Philip Trager, photographer; and
Laura Wilson, photographer and Connecticut College alumna.
Ted
Hendrickson’s book Time, Tide and Place, A Coastal Fly Fishers Chronicle
presents a collection of photographs and reports from the field selected from a
year of angling adventures. Each photograph depicts a coastal fishing location
and includes a self-portrait as a figure in the landscape.
A book by
Miles Ladin titled Lunch Poems pays homage to poet Frank O’Hara’s work of the
same title. Ladin will exhibit all of the prints from this unbound,
portfolio-style book. The prints were transferred from film to pixels and then
output to pigment on fine-art textured paper.
Black and white prints
from Philip Trager’s book, Dancers, will be on display. Trager is a renowned
photographer of dance and architecture and has over 10 published books featuring
his photography.
Laura Wilson is known for her portraiture and has been
on many assignments for newspapers and magazines worldwide. Featured in the
exhibition will be her book Hutterites of Montana, which includes a series of
black and white photographs that give a rare, intimate view of this reclusive
Christian sect.
