Sony has announced the DSC-T9, a new digital camera that promises a clear picture from shaky hands. The six mega-pixel camera is 0.85 inches think and weighs 5.5 ounces. Two features, an anti-shake lens and blur compensation, let the average Joe take sharp pictures.
The Sony DSC-T9 camera features a a shake compensator that is built into the lens: It consist of two sensors that are designed to detect operator shake and tiny motors that can move the lens to compensate shaking. Sony promises that this extra functionality will not drain the battery too much and the user can still take up to 240 images before the battery runs down.
In addition to the anti-shake lens, the DSC-T9 has a smarter auto feature that will increase the shutter speed to support fast movement. Sony says that the camera can do this without increasing the noise created in the digitale image.
Professional photographers have been using this approach and technology to make blur-free pictures for quite some time. High-end lenses such as the Image Stabilized Canon "L" lenses have been on the market for several years. Used by many sports photographers, these heavy and pricey lenses contain a gyros and micro-motors that allow sharp pictures taken at 1/60th of a second.
The Sony DSC-T9 will be available in the USA in January 2006 for just over $400. |
